But weirdly enough it is actually called "MacBook" and running OS X instead of iOS.
It comes with silver/space grey/gold as you would expected and an undetachable keyboard.
Starting at $1299 and no LTE model.

Seriously though, this thing has only one port, and you charge using it.
It is basically a freaking iPad.

Depending on a mandatory adaptor and/or multi-adpator, that one usb port could provide a lot. The macbook air I use has two usbs, a headphone port, and an sd card slot. I don't really ever find myself using the usb ports, but I do use the sd card slot every once in a while to transfer data, and I use the headphone port every once in a while.

I think minimum, apple could have provided one headphone port. Headphones and laptop use go hand-in-hand almost.

This leaves me wondering what they're going to do with the macbook air line in the near future. I would have loved for them to take the same form factor of the 13 inch air, make it thinner, give it a retina, and use that form factor to accommodate a 14-15 inch screen.

Calling it an iPad is too much of a dramatization. People had the same kind of reactions when apple first decided to forego optical drives in their laptops. Turns out that was a smart choice.

Agreed. But it is an awesome iPad. You can install Linux and Windows on it, you can install non-App Store stuffs on it, and you can also use it to write its own apps, or even iPad apps.

Oh, and it's fanless like any iPad before it... so that's a HUGE plus in my books.

Pricing not so hot, but ah well, it does have a retina screen, 8GB of RAM STANDARD (YES!), and also comes default with a 256GB SSD. Seems like a much better buy than the "higher-end" MacBook Air to me.

Oh, and it also runs Intel GMA 5300, which is enough to run most modern games at low settings... at about a quarter the screen's refresh rate in frame rate, and about a quarter the screen's max resolution, too. What is there not to love about this thing?

Honestly, though, it supports an external 4K display, and that's ALL I'd really ask for the GPU. Looks like it'll be a solid light programming and heavy office worker. Highly considering getting one for myself.

Oh, and the headphone output jack also doubles as an optical output... like the MacBook Pro line, by the way, so USB port not needed for some DACs unless you want to deal with jitter and other stuffs.

Oh, so this thing does have a headphone port. I take back what I said then, it doesn't need anything else really.

One usb and one headphone port is more than enough for light portable computing.

Still wish the air line got buffed more.

I can imagine that people were using Air don't need usb ports or displayports that often, but replacing all of them for one port I think it is too much. You can't connect anything else with a wire while you are charging.
For Air I guess they will just make it as a non-retina cheapest line of products?

I actually use my rMBP as a desktop, I connect a usb DAC, mouse, keyboard, so that's three usb ports, and an external monitor.
New macbook is good for mobility like Journalists I think...Still one extra USB port would be better IMHO.

Hm... actually, problem solved.

If you'd notice, their HDMI and VGA adapters are not 1-to-1. Each has a display port (HDMI or VGA), USB 3.1, and then another slot for USB-C. That should solve any lingering problem with not having enough ports.

If more ports are needed, a USB 3.1 hub can be used.

USB-C port in the adapter can also be used to supply power, or daisy chain another one of those adapters.

$79 is in line with what I'd expect for a hub that does all that, so... sounds like a good and elegant solution to me.

I'm a little surprised that there's no thunderbolt / displayport, but I guess that's where they're heading... no more desktops.
