Clash of Clans?

AustinValentine:
My childhood friends have been begging me to play this, since they know that I find repetitive behaviors comforting and that I become super obsessed about inconsequential minutiae.

After seeing this, I am convinced that they are no longer my friends.

You guys don't have teamspeak or equivalent?

No, it's very rare that everyone is online at the same time.  Talking to each other doesn't really help, anyway, since it's not an RTS game.

We need written records so we can go reference a chart to find out who has called which bases to attack, etc.

We do use Kik as a secondary communication method, though, when you need to reach someone quickly.

Marvey:
It's basically a fancy tower defense game (why I couldn't resist) with the twist that you also get to attack. You can't control your attacking army other than the initial placement of units. Different attacking units have different targeting priorities and paths. Ends up a matter of rock, papers, scissors. Asians tend to be good at this game - they are good at seeing and exploiting weaknesses in base design. The people who wreck my base always have three character fancy Chinese character names (this would imply Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore)

There's a lot of sitting around waiting for things to build. Structures at the higher levels can take days. Armies can take anywhere from 15 minutes to hours. You can do well with this game by only spending $20 to get extra builders. What happens with most people is that they get impatient, get pissed off that some random dude raped their base, or spend more resources (gold or grape juice or whatever they call it, I forget) than they get in return for attacking bases.

The game is ideal for someone who actually has some shit to do, but can come back to it once an hour or every few hours.

In terms of wars, the only thing that needs to be done is coordination of who attacks who and what helper / reinforcement units to send to friendlies.

Try weeks.

A lot of my upgrades are 14 days at this point.  *sigh*

I've managed to get through without spending any money...sort of.  I got a $20 gift card to the Play Store, which was put to good use to get my 5 builders.
