Also of note is that older HE-6's have a bit more etch to them than the newer ones (in my limited experience).

The primary components of the mod are regrilling, removal of the stock damping material behind the driver, and new pads. If you don't want to go to the hassle of making a new grill, just use the retaining rings to hold some nylons in place and carefully cut the rest away. Those three steps should take you maybe half an hour and are fairly easy to do. The fuzzor mod makes a very very small improvement after that but is more time intensive.

Not sure if I like stuffing one hole or both holes. Tending toward one hole since both holes seems kinda ghey ~Purrin

Armageis, I'm with you on the fuzzor mod...Wasn't worth the effort and I threw the material away. I also did not attach any replacement grills; left it open and love the "openness" of the sound..

Good points guys. That's exactly the tricky part - balancing that openness with "focus". I find it a bit too hazy without any fuzzer application, but if you apply too much, you loose that sense of space...a fine line to walk no doubt. I'm pretty happy where I currently have it, but it's subjective. I've spent quite a bit of time trying to get the last 5% out of it.

I have a piece of felt and a very thin "pillow" of acoustic filler in front of my drivers in lieu of the fuzzor (I did add the fuzzor later but didn't notice any difference and never bothered to take it off).

I've never heard of that... um, are you a really warm/sweaty person?

Unfortunately I am very warm and sweaty, in fact it sucks to wear some headphones.  I've been using the leather pads, just switched to the velour pads, we'll see if it changes.  I only saw it when i took off the pads, there was condensation on the metal grill but only on the upper half front quadrant not covered by the foam.

The velours will help a bit, but velour gets dirty more quickly (but luckily they can be gently washed).

Other than a fan to keep cool or use of antiperspirant, the only thing I can think of is to break the seal from the pads so air/moisture can escape. Fortunately, the hifimans aren't as reliant on a seal for bass response like other planars. You might look up some jergpad tutorials for the bass vent mods to see how to create a brief gap between the driver and pads and see if that helps.

I actually don't have this problem with the velours.  I put the leathers on again and after about 20 minutes I took them off and the condensation was there.

It's not sweat, that would require me to sweat so profusely that my sweat would be running into the headphone.  I haven't been sweating wearing these.  But the leather pads are tight and form a seal, I tend to put off a lot of heat, I think it is forming condensation on the grill as it is winter and moderately cold now.

I can't imagine I'm the only one who has this problem?  Maybe nobody ever looked at the grill under the leather pads during a listening session?  Any HE-6 owners out there look to see if this ever happens to you please!

It's not the sweat itself reaching the headphones, but it evaporates then the water condenses onto the grill because it's colder. But hey if the velours solve this, then you're done. Consider the Audeze vegan pads as well, or any other pad that has a more breathable fabric.
