Not sure about the Dayton. If it's like a Fiio E9 then it might not be low-z enough given your requirements. Also, based on your requirements, I would avoid any current mode type amplifier given you require low-z. Since your headphones are 25 ohms and 1W max I would proly consider a Schiit Magni.

It is less than 0.1 ohms and delivers 1.2W into 32 ohms, so relative to your headphone needs, it is a high current amp. It is also $99 brand new and does not look like a POS.

If you add a class-A operation requirement then go for the Asgard which can do 1W into 32 ohm.
Really hesitant to trust the Asgard 2 due to my experience with the Asgard 1, but perhaps. Thanks for the suggestion.

You could probably also look into buying used Burson Soloist (Soloist SL) amps? I think the non-SL is like 4W @ 16Ohm or something like that?
How cheaply do those go used, isn't the Soloist a ~$1.2k amp??

I bought my Soloist SL (used) for like $350 or so??? I guess you could probably find them for less than $400... I've seen Soloist (non-SL) for like $600 or less as well on the boards.

In the realm of things I find plenty interesting but haven't tried yet how about be the Rane HC6S...

http://www.rane.com/hc6s.html

It's a 6 headphone driver though, but plenty of current apparently and low-z as well for each port. Offers individual unbalanced inputs and one "master" balanced input, among other features. Not sure if others have heard it...

Emotiva a-100? But then you'd need a adapter. I haven't tried it myself with my headphones though.

Oh, let's not forget about the Lake People/Violectric ones as well... I believe they pushed good power as well???

I have considered going speaker amp + adapter, but I wanted to try it with a vintage Sansui AU-G99X or AU-X1111MOS, which are definitely not budget amps by any means.

I also don't want to risk messing up when I build the adapter and getting the magic smoke; 1W is high for headphones but it's tiny for speakers...

Yeah, Violectric is on my radar for end-game as well.

MalVeauX's guide on head-fi is pretty good and you can get a very cheap adapter made from one of the links provided on the OP. It's safe as long as you don't max out the volume. I can't speak for the amount of hiss/noise you'd get from a speaker amp though. Even with my virtue one.3's 55w into 4ohms, there is a very slight hiss when the room is silent and no music is playing.

Yeah I'm not worried about the adapter itself, I'm worried about my shit soldering skills, LOL

... actually, the Rane stuff might be better suitable for > 32 ohms. Ironically it may be a little current limited... Sorry about that. O2 uses a paralleled high current set of op-amp buffers. Might be better suited if you like the sound.

If you go down the O2 route however, you might want to consider a WAU16-1000 wall-wart for more powar (and forget about the waste of pcb space batteries).

What about the Project Ember/Polaris? That might be the cheapest option to get reasonably good power into headphones. What are you planning to drive anyways?
