I heard a T70 that sounded fairly similar to what was measured here though maybe with less severe ringing.  It was bright, but otherwise sounded pretty great right up until it hit the ringing in the treble.  Then it sounded like an explosion at a consonant factory.

Also the T70's that Tyll Measured over at InnerFidelity looked pretty similar to the T70p.  They have the same deep and narrow nulls that usually indicate ringing on purrin's CSDs.

Ahh I see.  Doesn't seem like the Telsa tech is doing very good at all.  Didn't the Dt880 get better measurements than the T90 and T70?

Hello. It's suprising, but I think my new pair is not that bright and is less peaky.
There is some relatively mild resonance at 6k and 8k. with concommittant dips at 7k and 9k. No other peaks.
(Less ringing than e.g. Hifiman RE-272, VSonic GR07, Grado RS1, Beyerdynamic DT1350 (which have huge 14k ringing).)
I don't find them all too bad w/o EQ either. Somewhat dryer sounding and a bit nearer and more concentrated in soundstage.

Perhaps my HRTF is just that weird, or your specific SN was a factory reject?

By ear equalization (reference -15 dB @ 500 Hz; no smoothing):

Or perhaps it's yet more evidence of Beyerdynamic QC issues...
Also the highs change based on front/back placement around ears a lot. Best obviously when centered. When pushed 2 cm to the back, they get piercing like what the graph in the first post would suggest.

For reference: SN03324.

There's no way Purrin could always receive "bad units".  It's just not possible.  Beyer QC has been shown to be terrible esp with the Tesla models so who knows if yours is better or not.  But "bad unit" implies that most are consistent, the bad one being the outlier.

Best way to know for sure is to send yours in.  :-)

well, the graphs come close to what I was hearing when I had the chance to compare them to the DT880/990...
If there are "bad units"... they sadly are the three-leafed clovers on the meadow.
