They were totally different.

Some people think the book is kind of fascist. (I don't.) But then again, some people think I'm kind of fascist too.

Rex are you using the SA5000 w/ one of the vintage amps?  I'm curious because I do find them seriously bass light, as in absent completely in the last couple octaves.  I do like them better for music from my Sansui.  Otherwise it's great for gaming w/ very simple, clean notes and not a lot of complex harmonics.

yea. right now i have them hooked up to speaker outputs of my 1980's Yamaha M-45 power amp and my yamaha is being driven from my 1980's H/K 725 preamp(i do also love running it off the matching H/K 770 dual-mono power amp as well but it's being serviced now so been using my yamaha lately). source is my echo audiofire 2 off it's balanced outputs(RCA to 1/4'' TRS jacks) at  +4dbu gain setting. i find the bass gives nice punch and well enough impact. i mean it's not speaker like impact like my sextetts but it's nice an tight and lets you hear the ''impact''. it does sound tad bit leaner than my DF's but just a tad.

it might be me though. i'm not a basshead really and don't care for monster impact or rumble. i usually tend to favor midrange and air clarity over something that can fart in my ears but that's just me(that's why i don't use my sextetts. gonna probably give them away pretty soon since i don't use them anymore). i did try them once off my serviced sansui 5000x before i traded it off but can't exactly remember how it sounded. i think it sounded warmer off the sansui then my other amps but that's going by memory so i'm not 100% positive. i do like them lot for movie watching and games but i do use them a lot for listening and lately i been using them lot more then my DF's.

^ It's not from starship troopers, is it?

I loved the book and the movie.

OT. I really liked the animated show "Roughnecks" as well.

yea i forgot to mention. i have habit of doing this but i stuck some cotton underneath the SA5000 pads to distance them from my ears more cause i felt the pads were bit flat. that can help with a better seal. might help with the treble as well but i can't remember since i never compared. it did give me better seal though. i also tried the 240 foam disc since it fits inside  but while it toned down the treble a lot  it didn't help with the bass. just made it sound like i kicked the hi-filter on my preamp. looking at the drivers though way they're angled i wonder is the hd800 about same diameter? maybe the anax mod or something work for it as well(i think that's the right one i'm thinking of).
