A month away from home means a month of mush-reduced internet presence. Being on holiday means having different things to do :)

So, not hello, but hello-again-I'm-back.

I bought the Noontec Zoro II for my travels (closed back, light, relatively inexpensive if damaged lost). One-liner review: It is comfortable, I enjoyed the music, but isolation is not good. Maybe I'll get it to Kothganesh if he is interested in doing a proper review.

Oops!
I sneaked in last night climbing onto this ship out of the water. Now the sun comes up I see the warning on the deck and the plank near it ... As my one and only fear is sharks I'll sneak out again and come in the normal way! Just give me a few minutes to empty a bottle of rum first!  :)p8

Ahoi everyone!  ahoy

I'm coming from the other forum and found this one yesterday looking for The Studio.
I have the same username on the other forum.

What I like in life? Life in general. I like to live and discover things that interest me.
I love my wife and worship my cats.
I like motorbikes and cars. I enjoy Macs. I like photography but ain't good at it at all
I have two bridge cameras, no DSLRs as I'd start to collect lenses.  :money:

Of course I like music, but I like audio gear as well. I like experimenting with headphones and amps for them.
I owned three headphones about 30 years ago (nothing special) enabling me to listen to my music without disturbing my parents but after that it was all speakers. Until 2008 when I discovered true headphones. Not because I needed them in order not to disturb my wife or the neighbors, my wife doesn't mind me playing through speakers and the neighbors are too far to hear them. No, because I enjoy the intimate sound phones give me.
I tried crossfeed and software to mimic speaker sound through headphones but I didn't like it, I prefer the sound of phones.

I have a few cans, had many more, tried quite a lot of others.
I have a pair of LCD-XC but would like the LCD-3 as well. I had a few Denon Lawtons but now have a few Fostex Lawtons (not sure if these are generally frowned upon here or if there are different opinions but I guess I'll find out). I have and love my HD650s. I like AT and had quite a few but not at the moment. I'll be getting a W3000ANV back this year though.

For amps I had quite a few nice ones but now I am at the point where I have my two best ones and only want to add 1 or two more.
I have a GS-X2 and a Zana. I am a big fan of EC so I am contemplating adding a Black Widow and a transformer tube amp. I was thinking the BA at first but now I'm trying to get on the waiting list for The Studio. The reserve list that is since the list is full at the moment.

Dacs? Dunno much about them, I'm pretty happy with my Marantz and actually would like to find out some more about it here. I found that Dac chart here yesterday and was amazed at how wrong I had been thinking. For now my Marantz will do and though I have the signal patched through the loops of the GS-X I think I'll just be switching the plugs from amp to amp when I want to listen, I don't think using loops are a good idea.

Oh, my speaker setup is Marantz + B&W. Pretty mainstream I know but I like the sound. I have the NA-11S1 Dac with the PM-11S3 amp and some temorary speakers on loan until the new 805 models come out later this year. I'll probably add a sub to them. They're setup as nearfields on my desk, love that sound!  :)

Music: All kinds of rock, flower-power, metal, alternative from the 60s 'till now, no 50s R&R though. Blues, bluegrass, country, soul. Jazz up to the 50s. Classical, mainly Baroque and string ensembles. Orchestral classicish. Reggea but not so much dub. Folk and world music. Vocal and acoustic. No EDM, although I appreciate it at parties. I used to work in a disco (pretty much underground stuff) end of the 80s when EDM wass still called House, Acid and later Techno and had a lot of fun. Rap and R&B mostly only at small parties with friends and booze.

Why I joined this forum? Well, to sign up for The Studio at first but after looking around a bit I see it's all about distinguishing the BS from the good stuff and learning to understand graphs as a guidance tool. Avoiding bad buys.
I hope to learn a lot and giv e something back when possible. Any remarks on my equipment to in order make me wiser are welcome. I think you'll find me quite often in the EC corner.

That's it for the moment. If you have any questions ...  :boom:
So, do I get a pirates hat or am I going to  walk the plank

Welcome aboard!  :)p1 :)p6

A few people have cat avatars here, so you're not alone on your cat adoration.

As far as EC is concerned, you're in the right place. The Studio is a sublime listen.  headbang

I've heard a pre production one at the Changfest a couple of months ago. No, I'm not on the list to get one.

Great for DAC offs though.  headbang

Welcome Applehead, I remember you from the HF W3000ANV thread a while back. You and Romy always had good contributions there. I recently sold my ANV's not that long ago. What a unique sounding and beautiful headphone it was. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time spent here and best of luck. BTW, you have great tastes in music, cheers!  :)p5

Thanks for the compliments Imswjm. Yes, I used to have a lot of ATs, but due to having been ill for over a year around 2010 I ditched everything I had but a simple D7100. I'm back up to speed now and have the gear I wanted back, but no ATs yet. I have a BNIB W3000ANV reserved for me and that's the only one I will be getting back. I do lust for the L3000 as it was so good with hardrock but these drivers are starting to get 12 years old and the prices steep so I think I won't do it.
I remember Romy as well, I wonder if she ever got to complete her AT Woodie set. I see she has her own spot here, will be nice to read up on her adventures again.
