Hey all!

Some of you might have seen my name pop up on Head-Fi.
Found my way here through the massive DAC thread and liked the feel of the forums.
Will probably lurk around and post occasionally (probably in the Music forum).

I've been in audio for a relatively short time (5 years), right now I'm serving my national service.

Cheers!  headbang

Welcome, welcome, and welcome.

I was pretty saddened when I hit the box asking me to list my gear. My modern gear is currently just a pair of ATH-AD700.

Don't. 90% of the people on HF who have long long lists of gear are in mid-fi purgatory, see this: http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,2626.0.html These long lists are merely e-peening.

I do most of my listening with one headphone: the HD650. The rest is a bunch of crap that I took measurements on and need to ship to other people or put on the Changstar loaner program.

My audio gear list consists of a beat up bike. It has wheels which when driven cut through exterior sound waves so I can travel from A to B on my bicycle. If that sounds silly, well I am Dutch...

I'm kinda stuck in mid-fi+ purgatory. I have a crapload of different headphones and earphones. The best I have are the Sennheiser HD650 (open), Fostex TH600 (semi-closed), Noble 5 (IEM), and Sennheiser G4me Zero (closed gaming). But I have about half a dozen other decent headphones that I could've just not purchased and would have been able to save for something closer to the summit.

Blizzard Entertainment? You wouldn't be located here in Irvine would you?

As far as mid-fi+ purgatory, sell what you don't need. I don't tend to buy lots of stuff, but I had a couple of mid-fi gear > $100 which was sold. KSC-75s I do have more than 2. One broke on me since they tend to take a little abuse sometimes.

  • I used to be indecisive, but I'm not so sure now.

Unless you're in the trade, or just damn good at selling stuff for more than you paid for it (or somehow responsible for supplying headphones to some kind of community) it's a good thing.

If...Unless someone's replacing units that have worn out (or become obsolete), over many years of use (because he does a LOT of listening and he's old), is it really a good thing if your regular Joe has a long list of gear, either currently or previously owned? To me, it just suggests that someone's got more money than sense (or certainly much more money than I have!).

So, keep that list short, and (try to) follow the right upgrade path, by making well-informed decisions, before parting with your hard-earned!

Very true words. I like to buy things that I think will give me good value over a long period of time, like well made audio gear.
