Hi!  Belated (sorry) intro here, I've been lurking for a while.  I spend a huge amount of time listening to headphones, but have not been very diligent about listening to much different gear.  Hence the lurking.  I came here because of the DAC thread on head-fi, as it seemed that the signal to noise ratio was a lot higher here.  Head-fi put me onto the Benchmark DAC 1 USB back in 2004, which at the time was way better than what I had.  I don't even remember what it was, but it's treble was absolutely heinous.  A while ago I heard a Bryston BDA-1 and concluded that the Benchmark had to go, but I had no clue where the Bryston stood in the field, only that it was way more expensive in the UK than in North America.  Then I got busy, and then started thinking about waiting for multi-bit to trickle down from Yggy...  More pressing, I need to put together a smallish desktop rig with closed phones as I'm moving to an open office desk soon.

Hi all - been here for a bit and haven't really posted.
I've been around /r/headphones and head-fi for some time now.

I'm really finding out a ton more here with your csd measurements than I ever had through other places.
It's just a lot of really good information on how to analyze headphones.
It's definitely much appreciated contributions!

About me - I've bought and sold way too many headphones.
I've found I tend to like planars a bit more - just like the speed and neutrality of most of them.

Howdy! I've read random stuff on Changstar for a while and I'm active on Head-Fi. I tend to agree with a lot of the discussions here and noticed some folks I pay attention to post here like Tyll and Lachlan, so I figured I might as well take the plunge and create an account.

I'm a total basshead to the point of making a website about it (Basshead.Club).

My current favorite headphones (that I own) are: Fostex TH600, Sennheiser HD650, Sony MDR-XB90EX, Noble 5, Sennheiser G4me Zero

Amps and such I'd say I am a bit more green with than headphones. I've heard a dozen or so and own several. I use a Sound Blaster ZxR or X-Fi Titanium HD primarily for gaming, but listen to music at the same time. I also have an ODAC (rev B) + Objective2, Dragonfly 1.2, and VorzAMP duo.

Since I'm a bass junkie, I'm not afraid of EQ, which is honestly the only reason I love the TH600 so much (the ~5.2kHz peak kills my soul if I don't drop it by a few dB).

Despite the bass addiction, I listen to a lot of different music. Electronic, classical, rock, blues, jazz, acoustic, folk, metal, hip hop, other random stuff. I also play guitar.

I'm hoping to put together a better measurement setup for full-size headphones. My IEM measurements are decent (but could be improved), but it looks like there are quite a few folks here who know how to measure headphones. I like getting objective data alongside subjective impressions.

In the real world, I'm married and have a 2 year old son (and 6 year old dog). For work, I'm a game designer at Blizzard Entertainment.

Hello,

I was pretty saddened when I hit the box asking me to list my gear. My modern gear is currently just a pair of ATH-AD700. I thought I had been cured of audiophilia a long time ago after I had purchased a Sony CDP-C701ES and a Nakamichi receiver. Back then, I had dreams of kilobuck monoblocks powering tower mains all controlled from a badass pre-amp in a home theater system, but the rapidly changing format wars and the havoc of researching pre-amps cured me of my audiophilia back then. Also moving from a house to an efficiency was just like beating a dead horse.

I came here because I am a mixture of measurements (part of my life, I was a Scientist) and perceptions. Also, I caught audiophilia again, but this time its the headphone strain. As a gamer, those AD700's are quite excellent, but not very fulfilling. So I have been reading a ton of Head-Fi this past week and was disappointed in the lack of CYA measurements that help me to quickly weed out the rubbish. I just found this site yesterday and have read so many threads here. I especially enjoy the FR and decay plots.

Now, I've preordered the Cavalli Liquid Carbon on impulse...probably not the smartest decision. I might not get one, but who knows.   walk the plank2

I am not a basshead, but I do like some rumble. I prefer a nice soundstages with accurate positioning. I like phones on the bright side of the spectrum.

I don't really listen to country, rap or jazz. I listen to bit of hip hop and a lot of electonica, instrumental soundtracks (games), pop (Jpop), classical, folk, punk, and metal (not goth, more symphonic).
