Hi all,

Been lurking for a while and finally registered today. Long-time member of head-fi, and I appreciate the honesty here along with the lack of snark I see at head-case. Hoping to continue learning from you all and get some recommendations on a system I'm currently revamping (gear list in my profile, but pasted here):

Source: Mac Mini, Oppo BDP-105D (ESS Sabre 9018), WiiU, PS3 (retired while I try out recently acquired used Oppo)
Amps: Peachtree Audio Nova125 (ESS Sabre 9023), Headamp Pico USB DAC/amp
Speakers: Magnepan 1.6QR
Cables: Clear Day Cables double shotgun (solid core silver), Clear Day Cables interconnects (solid core silver, unshielded)
Headphones: Etymotic ER4P/S, Grado HF2, AKG K7XX

Anybody familiar with the Oppo BDP-105D? (can take discussion to another thread or PM)

Pleasure to join the forum.

Hello all!

I joined in November, have previously made a grand total of 3 posts but have read, enjoyed, laughed with and found useful hundreds of posts by others, so finally I'm poking my head above the hatch and showing my whiskery, ugly and possibly piratical fat face on deck.  I've posted in a few audio places with the same user name, and sometimes as "takla".  Head-Fi mods hated me and issued temp bans cos I forget to remember to tiptoe about so as to avoid damaging those special delicate and precious teenage egos and once I got into trouble because I wrote the word "changstar".  Hydrogenaudio psycho bug eyed dickwads hated me for just saying stuff that is plainly and obviously true, for challenging certain unchallengable people when they said stuff which was dogma but equally plainly nonsense, and, most of all, for pointing out that that they have a severe case of religion.  I said Jehovah.  They threw rocks.  Their rules.  I died.

My sincerest hope is that you guys can learn to hate me for different and more individualistic and less obviously group-think motivated factors, thank you.  It shouldn't take long.

I love music, especially British, Russian and Scandinavian Classical, early/Renaissance English and Italian music, contemporary African (especially stuff from Mali and Senegal) and some more modern US and European stuff too.  I like audio equipment but I don't have a great place to live or a large budget (I live by a busy, noisy road) so  I listen almost exclusively with IEMs and closed back headphones.

By changstar standards I guess my stuff ranges from execrable to budget but I love some of it, specifically my iRiver H140 (10 years old and still going strong(!)....3rd battery, 2nd disk - now a 128GB SSD) with line out to a FiiO E7.  The headphone out on the iRiver is a bit hissy and crappy but the line out is pretty much beyond criticism for a portable device (so far as I can tell).  I really like my v1 Sennheiser Momentums (circumaural) and I absolutely love my Flare Audio R2Pro.

Anyway, that's it, I introduced myself and now I'm heading back below decks to keep searching for the stash of rum.
