alright, let's pretend I'm new. (I was on here ages ago but couldn't retrieve my login, so I registered again). fresh start.

I used to be a musician and performed for years. classical mostly (cello), a bit of jazz too (bass). also, I used to be a contributor on another headphone forum, until one day in a fit I removed all my posts. over the past three decades, I went through a few phases - built several two-channel systems, sold off stuff... went with vinyl, then gave all that up... built a music server... etc.  the typical journey.

but in terms of headphones, I've been pretty loyal to beyerdynamic since 1986. more recently, I got into IEM listening, partly due to travel; I was a beta tester for several models by a noted IEM maker for quite a while. I used to attend a lot of meets and trade shows... but then I dropped out of that circuit for health reasons.

now I'm back! currently most of my listening these days is on a big rig (magnepan, kilowatt amp, NAS, streaming DAC) but I also like my various tube amps and DAPs and other gadgets when there's time.

Welcome 1melomaniac  ahoy

I think I often read your posts on HF in the past. Yes my alias is the same on HF.

Argh, ya scurvy maties. My name is Kurt. I'm kind of a HF refugee, as although I still stop in there, I rarely post anymore. Too much nonsense, too much fawning over site advertisers (although I met Jason Stoddard at RMAF last year and liked him, the messianic awe he seems to inspire over there is too much for my B.S meter to take). I am kind of a refugee from CA also, and I must say, CA makes HF seem sane and down-to-earth. The lunatics are really running the asylum over there. This happens a lot to anyone with any objectivist leanings at all walk the plank2. Anyway, I'm here to learn and have fun, not necessarily in that order. Any questions are welcomed.

I never paid much attention to headphones until financial hard times forced me to sell almost everything I owned, including my 2-channel rig. All I had left was a MacBook Air, a pre-ordered yet undelivered Geek Out 450, and a pair of headphones that sounded terrible and squeezed my head like a pimple.

As my eventual financial recovery progressed, I gradually upgraded my system to what it is now:
MacBook Air -> Wyrd -> GO450 -> Vali -> HD800

I'm thrilled with the sound I'm getting! I like this way better than any 2-channel system I ever owned. The fun/$ ratio in the headphone world is so high, I have no intention of owning another pair of speakers!
