Hello folks!

Kind of lost interest in headphones in the last few years.
Recently I tried to find a pair of sealed headphones for portable use. That was when I realized that I didn't have one in my collection!
Got myself a pair of Sony MDR 7520 and I am happy again. :-)

You can't say Head-Fi here, sorry.

Oh, wait, yes you can... carry on.

Hello pyrates,

I come in peace from HF and am enjoying the no-BS philosophy of this community more. The few hours I've spent lurking here have taught me more than months reading HF. In a nutshell, I am obsessed with planars, a huge Tyll fanboy, and a Schiithead. And like many of you, I am searching for my audio holy grail.

I've come to know Marv through his extensive DAC thread on HF, to which I forwarded to my audiophile friend. Said friend had the pleasure in meeting Marv at CanJam and confirms that Marv is a totally legit and we have both since embraced the pyrate lifestyle.

Really looking forward to knowing this community.

Fuck. Shit. Hell yeah, my favorite words aren't censored on a messageboard for once.  :spank:

Welcome fellow traveller in the world of sound waves and continental drivers.

Yes, here you may use profanities. Language here is not dictated by HF-correctness.

To quote the great Billy Connolly: "I know at least 127 words and I still prefer fuck."

Hi, I'm doing the introduce yourself thing. I tried to read through all the introductions first but realized that might take me years. I got here through Anaxilus' CamJam report. I am an old school audio purist and a musician, IE: I got into HiFi back when you built your own kit, usually using tubes, and recording engineers were audiophiles. My first headphones were Heathkits if I remember properly. I had a pair of Stax Servo-Static headphones back in the 70's, but I don't remember the model number, I also had a pair of Quadraphonic Headphones that I used to use for mix downs, though for the life of me, I don't remember the manufacturer, they were stolen in the mid 80's. My preference has always been for Stax and AKG, but haven't done any serious listening to them in about 20 years.

I am one of those dreaded manufacturer employees, and have been working with Questyle for a little over a year now. It has given me the opportunity to listen to a few of the newest headphones, Audeze, Focal, the HD800s, Aedle, B&O, Grado and the Enigmacoustics Dharmas appear to be my best hope for an actual good sounding headphone, but I need to do more listening, and I need to seriously listen to what Stax has to offer, as well as a few others. That is not to say that the others aren't marvelous headphones, but we each have our own ideal that we are trying to reach.

I don't subscribe to the objective vs subjective definitions offered in the opening posts, in fact I take issue with the idea that logic is only applied to objective testing. In the long run, the value of all testing is subjective. While it may be helpful to know how a given speaker (headphone) handles a tone burst or carrier wave, there is no real world equivalent to these tests (as they can only be reproduced by speakers which we have already established aren't accurate) that can be measured by the human ear to determine if those tests are even relevant to what a person hears. I also object to the term psychoacoustics as it implies that the human ear's ability to measure spacial relationships is somehow imaginary. It is my belief that real world experience has to enter into the equation. That in my mind is what qualifies as an objective measurement. Acoustical instruments vs the attempt by the HiFi system to reproduce those instruments. To put it another way, electronic tests and measurements can only tell us how much the equipment (from microphone to speaker) distorts a given signal, but it can't tell us how that distortion is going to effect the sound, only the human ear can make qualitative judgments on sound. (this is the soap box right?)

My pirate movie of choice is Swashbucklers with Robert Shaw and Peter Boyle.
