Hello sailors!

The name is Panagiotis, been lurking around for a while and decided to request permission to come aboard.

If they'll let me in they'll let anyone in! Welcome to all the lurkers who join and the joiners who lurk --- and those of us who are somewhere in the middle

Tnx for the welcome guys.

A few words about me, lets call it a formal introduction. I like music, quite a lot actually. I prefer live concerts but since i cannot afford myself a symphonic orchestra for everyday I have to stick to my turntable most of the time. I listen to digital too, prefer PCM-DXD over DSD but still have not found the DAC that suits my taste (and can afford it at the same time). My main system is decent good, solid state through-out though I do have a few DIY tube amps. I prefer open back headphones and R2R DACs. Mono recordings area also appreciated.

I enjoy reading the pirates forum and decided to signup, maybe even post a bit.

Oy, mateys! (that's ozzie pirate-speak, I think...)

Just joined tonight based on a recommendation by Tyll in his year-end and also having read Purrin's articles at HF with a lot of interest.

Just some background for y'all....

Been into and out of high-end audio a coupla times, back in the "Golden Age" and then more recently, got back into it in 2008, after taking a 20 year hiatus to ride and race sport motorcycles (and mountain bikes).

I'm a scientist by profession, my background is in human molecular genetics and molecular diagnostics, and I am also a Six Sigma Black Belt and I teach and manage a Design for Six Sigma program at the biotech company I work at in the Bay Area. I have to admit I love looking at data, and at work, I use a statistical program from SAS called JMP to visualize my data at work. Given that, there also perceptual responses to listening that can only be classsified as "subjective" that influences whether or not a particular listening experience is engaging and beguiling.

So, like many of you, I have an interest in both the objective, psychological, and subjective aspects of this perception-based phenomena we experience called "listening to music".

I'm also a photographer, and have worked as a professional motorsports photojournalist for some major racetracks in Northern California for over 10 years. So, I take a lot of pictures...

Until recently, my involvement in stereo gear has been 2-channel loudspeaker-based, but I've recently gotten into headphones as a nice way to listen to music when I am editing my photography in Capture One or Lightroom. Started out with a pair of Sennheiser Momentums, and just recently picked up a LNIB pair of HD600s. Then, I just got a new A&K AK100 II, and that clearly led me down the path of "you know where this is leading...", so I am clearly getting much more into listening to music with headphones. So, I'm a newbie at the whole "cans" thang, but I learn fast, so I thought this fine vessel would be a good place to develop some "tradecraft".

Been reading all the stuff in the Soapbox, but I was already familiar witih waterfall plots from a previous study I did using a statistical technique called "Design of Experiments" (aka DOE) to integrate a sub-woofer into my 2-channel loudspeaker system using a calibrated mike, and REW. I can put that study up here for review if folks are interested in "DOE for Audio"....

So, that's me...and I'll go back to lurking a bit...

Cheers,

The guy in my avatar is actually myself circa 1960, maybe earlier, just about when I could stand on two feet, messing about with my dad's (God rest his soul) stereo.
Or rather ....mono.  ::)
Time has passed and now I am a hard core AKG fan. Presently I listen with my K240, K340, K270studio and K1000, all bought when they came out and still live and kicking...

If any of you members can manage to find out the record on my avatar I will praise you with an image of my first headphones, my dad's of course, even older than my AKGs and ...still live and kicking...  ;)

Having spent time with all of them, shaizada's QBD76HDSD is much better than the quteHD variants and the regular Hugo. Let's see if the HugoTT is any good.

It might happen that Changstar will become known for its cat avatars.

I am all for it  :)p2
