New Members - Introduce Yourself (2.0)

Welcome to Aarr Me Headphones Be Effin Ringin!   ahoy

This is a forum about headphones.  We are interested in realistic assessment and discussion through a combination of objective measurements and discerning subjective impressions.  Our goal is to seek and destroy all crappy headphones.  We want to hear music, not the inside of some jackass engineer's resonating plastic bung hole.

If you're a new member, please do the following before posting, lest you're keen on walkin the plank!!

1. Read the articles in the soapbox
2. Read the stickies at the top of the headphone measurement forum
3. Introduce yourself here

4. Peruse the Manifesto

This isn't an interrogation, we aren't judging you here.  This is a get to know you thread, we are friendly and welcome new Pirates.  Just say a bit about yourself like what you do, or why you're interested in being part of a headphone forum, or what you think of the CSD measurements here, or your past experiences with headphones good/bad.  Whatever seems relevant or appropriate for you.  It's nice to have some background for new members before opinions start emerging out of arses.

Discussion is fine too, as long as it's related to the topic at hand.   :)p4

A Note from LFF about Subjective and Objective extremism.

The subjective versus objective debate is truly a question of origins. Before you continue reading this...ask yourself..."How did I come here to Changstar?" and then ponder what your current goal of being here, in this hobby, is.

Many people on various forums often portray the subjective versus objective debate as religion versus science with subjectivity being religious and objectivity being scientific. If you don't agree with these labels, then you too are labeled as being a fanatic in the religious camp.

The fact is that neither model has been established beyond a reasonable doubt. Whether we like it or not, those of us who subscribe to measurements do so by faith. Faith in the measurement equipment, in the operator and in the programs. Those who argue that the design of the ear and the built-in biological differences allow each of us to hear differently and thus invalidate objectivity, are not arguing from subjective beliefs, but rather science that is based upon empirical observation and logic.

So why even squabble about subjectivity versus objectivity?  What does it matter at the end of the day? Should it matter what we believe is true? ABSOLUTELY!

Even more important than what we believe to be true is what actually is true. Someone might not believe in gravity, for example. Nevertheless, if that person were to step off the empire state building, that person would fall to the ground below, regardless of what they believed. While it may be true that neither model has been established as pure fact, one model has had more empirical observation and logic applied to it than the other - both biologically, mechanically, theoretically and has had many studies in the areas of biomechanics, physics, biology and engineering. And so, once again, we have the question: Why are you here on Changstar? Are you here to learn with an open mind? Are you he re to disprove what you believe is false? If it's the first one, then welcome and enjoy your stay. If it's the second, please visit Head-Fi.com...they are more your kind of people.

We are here because we don't rely on hearsay. We invite all people to investigate the evidence for themselves and draw their own conclusions after analyzing both the objective and subjective aspects of the hobby. We do not approach anyone with a "holier than thou" view...we just don't believe in anything holy. Nothing is perfect.

Hello everyone, so while talking with a friend the other day about my headphone hobby I came to a realization.  Im not sure I can call it a hobby, obsession would probably fit better.

Over the past couple of years I have gone from only having a pair of MS-1s to a set up I find quite enjoyable (gamma 2>Crack+speedball>HD600).   DIY is an aspect of this obsession that really amps me up! ;D

I figure it is time to go all in, and I appreciate the objective approach of changstar.  I look forward to becoming a part of the community and having people to share the joys of audio bliss.

Hey everyone!

My name is Jeff. I've been an on/off member of Head-fi for quite some time, but finally registered here so I can find some time away from the epeen displays there...

I'm a classically trained musician, been playing piano since I was 4 and played viola in the San Francisco Youth Symphony while I was in high school. I used to be a HUGE basshead back when I started this hobby in high school, but now I've settled down with more neutral sounding headphones.

Luis has been a godsend in that regard with his headphones. I'm currently switching between his Paradox Slants and Enigmas at work while using a HD800 and a Schiit Vali at home. Shoutouts to CEE TEE for helping me with the UERMs that I'm expecting in the future. Looking forward to participating in the treasure trove of knowledge here!

Hello everyone

I have been into audio for about a decade.  Started listening to headphones a couple of years ago so i could have music when others in the family would be bothered by using the speakers. So far I am satisfied with HE-6 but sometimes think about other options.  Enjoy learning about how things work so this seemed like a good site to watch.  thanks

Ahoy !

Audio have been my hobby since the day I've buyed a Supravox Siruis (French manufacture) for $40 which has wide band HP who mesure very well ! (http://www.supravox.fr/mesures/mes215RTF64BIC1.htm and http://www.supravox.fr/mesures/mes215RTF64BIC2.htm). The case was in a very bad shape and I had to made a new one, following the plan Supravox gave me.

For the moment they're at my parents house :

One year later I've found a Yamaha HP3 in my uncle attic and reaserch leads me to headfi and especially to Wualta thread ! From there began my headphone adventure !
Sadly I've realized headfi was a lot about excessiveness and polemic, but don't get me wrong there some thead I really like on headfi !   :)p5

My orthos are pictured here : http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,484.msg48030.html#msg48030

Nowadays I plan on getting a Zmf x Vibro, end of my T50RP modding journey  :)p5
