Hi. I'm a lurker that finally decided to make an account.

I currently run a Questyle CMA 800R and Yulong DA8 into a unmodified Sennheiser HD800. Probably looking to change the DAC as I do not particularly enjoy it. I am considering a endgame Schiit stack (Ragnarok + Yggdrasil).
In the mean time I am trying to look for a cheaper DAC that can replace my DA8 for the time being.
I've got an AK JR arriving in the mail and I plan to use that with either the Hifiman RE600 or Shure SE 846 that I own.

I love this hobby a lot but I am also like many not very great at describing what I hear yet. I live in Sunny Norcal or Socal depending on if i'm in school or not. Unfortunately I have to rely on online reviews and suggestions for everything I buy which has led to some mistakes.

I like listening to anything that sounds good to me (don't really dislike any genre or like any certain genre). Only exception maybe is I really do enjoy sad songs.
I'm not sure what I am politically as I just like to decide on what makes sense to me based on what I know.

Nice meeting you all.  :)

Hey!  What's up y'all?

nmatheis (same over in headfi-land) reporting for duty  ahoy

I'm sure some of you know me.  For those who don't, I've been into portable audio since I got my first Sony Walkman with crappy treble-happy over-the-head earbuds.  Oh man, did I do some damage back then.  Metal and crappy table-happy earbuds should be outlawed!!!

I moved on to portable cd players, then minidisc (woot, woot for md, yo!!!), and on to old-skool DAPs (Rio Karma, several iRiver), and now my iPhone and Fiio and iBasso DAPs.

My HP / IEM collection has grown over time from Sony, Sony, Sony to a diverse and ever-growing budget and mid-fi collection.

I think I listed pretty much everything I own or can remember trying in my profile.  Take a look if you're interested.

I listen to a lot of electronic (mostly more abstract / experimental stuff) and metal (mostly old-skool, black, and doom).  I also dig classic rock, jazz, and modern composition.

Hopefully that's enough to get things rollin'  headbang

Man, this reads as my portable source path up until very recently. MiniDisc! So awesome, and so unappreciated in the US... now I have to go dig out my old player and see what shitty recordings I still have.

Welcome aboard!

Hello all,

I'm a long time lurker here, and figured it was time to make an account. I usually post at reddit.com/r/headphones under a similar moniker. My current stable of headphones include the Audeze LCD-X (yeah, yeah, I know the general opinion), Fostex TH-600, Westone UM-3, and last my gateway pair the Sennhesiser HD-518. I'm looking to probably replace the Fostex TH-600 and/or the LCD-X with the ultimate closed pair (UCP). Unfortunately I'm beginning to think the UCP is a mythical beast that does not actually exist. I thought the EL-8 could be my UCP, but alas it was a bitter dissapointment. The Shure 1540 also seemed like it could be the UCP, but it's technicalities let it down. The closest I've come is the Audeze LCD-XC, but it is far too heavy to be my UCP. I will soon get to try the Beyer T5P, and the stable of ZMF models. Hopefully, one of these will be my UCP, but I have my doubts. I think I am doomed to wonder the wastelands forever searching for the mythical beast, never quite finding it. Follow the white rabbit they say.

Anyways, what do people think about the Ether C?

Hello pyrates. I've been meaning to introduce myself for some time. My affair with Changstar started when the name was actually deleted from a post I made on the other site.
I am about 2 years into the hobby, if you could call it that. There was a time when I was an information junkie but now i'm after quality rather than quantity. Changstar serves me well there. Thanks folks.
I am an academic researcher in the life sciences but sometimes feel I was destined to be an engineer, although that does not mean I don't get to tinker with what I do. Its essentially tinkering but in a slightly different way, with a life-saving twist at the end.
I aspirate for more than I can afford, although I'm very stingy as well. My current headphone includes Hifiman's HE-400i for my home use sourced and powered by Emotiva's DC-1 or an iPad/LG G3 via Fiio's E12. For portable use, I alternate between Etymotic's HF5 and the Sony XBA-H1s. My preferred sound signature is highly neutral. I hate bloated anything. I used to own Beyer's DT880 and will never forget the day I listened to them for ~2 hours and felt my ears ringing for a couple days after.
Music is consumed through the higher quality TiDAL subscription on my iPad Air/LG G3 or a dedicated HTPC running Windows 7. My 2-channel set up includes Emotiva's Stealth 6 monitors sourced via the DC-1.
