Marv, I still want to see the measurements from mine even though they aren't accurate with the other graphs on this site. purplegoat and I just want a direct comparison of both of our HE-6s since we were both in the same room at the same time. Actually, mostly because purplegoat has been nagging me for them.  walk the plank2

Thanks for posting that one. I guess it's time for Vegans.

Jason's mods are Vegans with sticky stuff (no HFM plastic ring), hardwired copper stranded cable, fuzzor mod but with soft adhesive back felt (not stiff adhesive back felt), and grill mod with cotton removed. Got the memorized at this point.  p;)

I was thinking about selling the HE-6 but now seeing this graph I figure I should just get the vegans and do the fuzzor mod with soft felt. My big issue was the dip at 5k but Jason has fixed that.

And for those keeping score, ohhgourami's HE-6 in red:

Very strange. Ultrabike measured a peak at 10kHz.  Is that why you mean by the room pushing the treble down a bit?

yes. The treble got rolled on the measurement significantly. you might have the HE-6 with the smoothest / less peaky treble - and it sounds that way to me too. I do not like stock HE-6s at all.

I guess I'll leave them alone for longer. Purplegoat criticizes the FR on mine as there's a decline in the treble overall. He's looking for a 6kHz and 10kHz peak. He felt mine sounded very laid back compared to Anax's HD800.

The mods I did:
  • jerg's felt mod
  • jerg's grill mod
  • Audeze Vegan pad
  • hardwire

That's the reason I like yours. As you know, my preference is "not bright".

What is the jerg felt mod? (sorry, I'm am lazy)

Yup, I know your preference. I was actually aiming to get as close as I could to the stock FR, but the Vegan pads ended up taking away a pretty high peak somewhere which smoothed it enough of you non-bright lovers. Soundstage, imaging, and spacial realism greatly improved as well as comfort and bass impact.

This is the felt mod: http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,1154.msg33231.html#msg33231

Jerg used a stiff felt while I used a thinner soft felt.

I just confirmed that my headphone was out of phase during the meet.  :'( It doesn't sound wonky anymore and has a more direct sound.  :)p1

I don't criticize the sound for the tamed treble, I think the HE-6 is bright to a fault. I felt your HE-6 pulled me into the sound at an odd place, it might have just been because they were out of phase. I think you have the best HE-6 so far, but maybe it's just not the right headphone for me. That said, if there is supposed to be air and yours don't have it that would be an error IMO even if it's less pleasurable, but I couldn't hear well enough at the meet and I don't know well enough in general to make that assessment.
