This comment kind of confuses me since it was my s7 I think you are referring to.  If I recall correctly, you moved your dac to the s7 to listen to it.  Admittedly, the source when it was on the DA11, or on your dac was USB since it was a portable source, which sucks.  The da11 sounds noticeably thin out of USB in my opinion.

It also had the stock tung sol tubes at the time, which also aren't the best match.  I need to make it out to the next dallas meet with my new setup and hopefully a portable source that isn't usb.  At the meet you heard it, I had barely had it for 3 days, it really wasn't done justice at that point.

All that said, to add to the topic, I think the CSP2 is outstanding for the price, and when comparing retail prices I don't know that I'd recommend the s7 over it.  The CSP2 is a better value as far as I'm concerned, and I say that as a S7 owner.
I didn't listen to it with my DAC (at least I don't think I did). Perhaps you borrowed it and listened to it though. I knew you had just gotten the S7 and still had the stock tubes (I think) so I wasn't rushing any judgement on the S7. Like I said, I'm giving it benefit of the doubt.

I hope you can make it to the Dallas meet in a month. Would be great to hear a dialed in S7.

edit- Looked it up and yes you listened to the X-Sabre on yours and I did not.

Here was my take on your rig from impressions thread:

Quote (selected)
Lavry DA11 - EC Super 7 - HD800 (SE)
Notes: Similar to mine in balance but lacks attack. Softer on treble. Not as much air. Stage similar. Really like the cymbals, amazing. Vocals are slightly fuller than mine. Bass needs more impact, but it's pretty good. Very nice rig. Would be happy with a few tweaks. Tendancy to harshen on some vocals like mine with the Gungnir instead of X-Sabre.

Comments: A near mirror of my own rig. Liked vocals and cymbals better on this than mine, but felt it lacked attack and air.

2-Do NOT get the Beeswax cap upgrade, that's what Audezes are for.

That made me laugh. It's funny...cuz it's true.

I think even Steve recommends against the "upgraded" Beeswax caps these day.

I sort of like the idea of one 1/4 inch + 4 pin XLR, so the amp isn't a mirror image on both sides. Unlike Maxvla, I sort of dig the looks of the current crop of Decware amps. He went a little crazy with the bias meters, but they're sort of handy, too.

The ones with the flat sides are ok. The crown molding ones are absolutely awful, IMO.
