All the best for you and your family. This kind of change takes time but all will go well

Calabasas is a step up from Irvine in my book. Maybe not Woodland Hills so much. I never lived in SoCal but I've been there about three dozen times for work. The commute on the 101 during rush hour is a mildly inconvenient B-otch. Made it many times. But Calabasas and Agoura Hills are friggin' gorgeous to me.

If LA is your thing.  It's certainly not mine.  I've pretty much refused any work in the county.  Orange Country to San Diego is about all I can tolerate.

Thanks for the well wishes!

Actually demoting myself and taking a corporate job with normal hours. Really looking forward to it. Downgrading house too, but that's kind of necessary for a move anywhere near the Biebs' hood.

Money is slightly less, but benefits are much better. The recent healthcare laws increased my family's monthly health insurance to $1400 for a good HMO plan. (Old work was small firm, so I was fucked.) With the larger corporation thing, I get same health insurance for about $260. They also throw in vision, dental, life, workout facility with personal trainers, a good cafeteria, etc. The good thing is this large entity is owned by an holding company in Toronto Canada, so hopefully I will have some stability for a while.

But yeah, heads are already exploding at my soon to be old place of work.

Corporate jobs aren't so bad (sometimes great!) if you find a position and company that mesh well with you. My father has been working for the same corporation since he came out of college, and it helped bring a nice level of stability to the family, from what I could tell.

A lot of my classmates mentioned not wanting to work for a big corporation (or they wanted to travel endlessly and do consulting...not for me, but I don't want the same thing in life as everyone else), but I found a gig I like (minus the mandatory third-shift rotation for 1-2 years, but IT is 24/7) and a company that I'm generally not ashamed to say I work for. Benefits are great, and they really reward those that work hard and stick around for a while.
