AKG K612 pro

Greetings

Someone have owned/heard new AKG K612 pro?
Some kids say on head-fi it is great with proper ,,amplification'' some people suggest it is weak, thin, and hollow.

I am really interested to try them, but my location don't allows me to return product and I don't want to waste 170$ around. I like AKG K500 with 501 pads, and I hate K240 studio, no other AKG I have tried.

Any opinion would be greatly appreciated  :)p1 :)p1 :)p1

I didn't like them. They still have that k701 sound only less offensive with the peaks.

Stick to the K500 and try the K601 ear pads. I find the different ear pads make the low end more present at the expense of nothing else.

Add a closed headphone for more present low end and you have a good set.

Others I have now are HD650, Shure SRH 940, HD598, owned Sony MA900, HD558, Alessandro Ms1i, listened DT880,T1 DT1350, SR80/225/325, and many other. However I like that K500 does especially for classical music, - Realism, and clarity, I am aware that soundstage is not possibly last word in accuracy, bass is not great and may be headphone have other flaws, but again they do something magical, and I am looking to find something like this.

About the K500, I agree its relative flaws are outdone by what it does well. The K400 comes close but lacks the detail the K500 brings forth. When you sit down and listen with the K500 you get the impression the music seemingly opens up. Good recordings can sound amazing and bad recordings can sound so terrible you will never play that music again.

Come to think of it is good you have the HD650. To better the K500 you have to enter HD800 territory, I am serious...

Are Q701 K612 sibilant sounding?  if so they are excluded from list  walk the plank on K500 I have no sibilance whatsoever just super clarity - every s or sh is like human pronounced on vocals  headbang

A used HD800 in pristine condition is affordable. The system to make the HD800 sound good is something you have to consider.

If I would have a full time job an HD800 with system would be doable. As a student my budget is too limited.

Is there a place where you can audition these headphones you mention? If not, with spare cash you can audition them and sell them when you do not like them in "like new" condition with ease.

I had great hopes for the K612 but it looks like nobody really cares. I know that AKG tunes them almost perfectly to the diffuse field curve but people prefer other phones like the K240DF better... which are close to the curve but not as precise as the K6xx. Also, the driver on the K6xx is supposedly superior in plankton retrieval but again, nobody seems to care and there are a few cases of people claiming that the details aren't as forthcoming. So my conclusion is that they are probably great for figuring out what music sounds like in a poorly damped room... like a concrete chamber. If you need to know what that sounds like while mixing and mastering your music, then the K6xx phones are supposed to be great at that... because that's where diffuse field came from: a poorly damped acoustic chamber with speakers blaring.

They are comfortable to wear, though.

I've got one coming in off a trade sometime this week (hopefully). I'll post some impressions when I've gotten some head time with them.

Not sure if I like stuffing one hole or both holes. Tending toward one hole since both holes seems kinda ghey ~Purrin

These just came in over lunch break. Two minute impression: More similar than not to the K701. Fit is pretty much the same (thankfully no bumps on the headband). Lacks deep bass (no surprise there) and doesn't really have much kick on the midbass. Emphasis in the upper mids somewhere. Treble smoother than expected*.

*athough I've got a headcold so my ears are a bit stuffy
