I'm sure it's worth something.  But according to Tyll, the HD25 was released in 1989.

i had no idea the hd25 was that old.

Oh yeah, and there's some story about the design being cobbled together from spare parts lying around when some Senn engineers were travelling and need some phones on the spot.

I'm sure it's worth something.  But according to Tyll, the HD25 was released in 1989.  So after 23 years, and a million roman numerals and dash signs and numbers, they..... remold the cups in a different material.  Fail.

The drivers are different too.  They reduced the impedance and probably tweaked them a bit.  Don't know how much that counts for though.

They don't look to be that different because of how similar the SW looks.  I guess we'll see though...

really. sounds interesting. maybe that's why i never heard them then. i still don't understand after all these years it took them this long just to change the cups lol. sennheiser has bunch of geniuses running the creative department for the hd-25. i want to see their hd414 and hd424 brought back. they were some very interesting headphones using microphone drivers instead of your typical headphone drivers. but all i can do is dream.

Kind of a time to resurrect old topic, since Amperior seems to sell (on ebay) less than HD 25 it is interesting Question: Is Amperior better then HD 25 1 ii (whatever). looking at headroom and goldenear graphs it is evident that Amperior have more bloated 100-300 Hz while HD 25 stays more linear.

However people suggest opposite,- that Apmerior has more clean and punchy bass and less strident highs. I know it is hard to measure on ear headphones and graphs show more bass then it is in reality but I hardly believe that Amperior is better.

It is interesting to put p-leather pads on Amperior and see how it measures

thoughts? what you think is Amperior worse?

  • Warning: causes nearby electronics to go haywire

Amperior is more or less the same, except it tends to have better channel matching and better QC in general.
Plus metal shells, so its reverb sounds different.

Other than this, definitely not worth $300. If you need a closed supraaural, DT1350 can be had for the price - if you can find a good sounding one.
If not, Senn HD598 or Beyer DT880, depending on whether you want more bass or highs.

I agree, they are more or less the same cans but thing is - Amperior has more uneven response, and in critical listening you can reveal this flaw. I tried HD25 in the shop and liked it briefly, but I am not sure how it handles classical music. I need on ear good isolating cans for to use it in my workplace. currently I have Shure SRH 940 but they are large and have uncomfortable headband (which I changed)

good thing with Amperior is that you can find it rather cheap then HD 25 1 ii, (on ebay) so I was thinking it is not worth to pay for Amperior now better buy would be old HD 25...

I already have HD598 and tried DT880 600ohm, and DT1350... Beyers never impress me,  but still I need to try DT880 on good amp

I think if I was in the market for a closed headphone for work (and didn't need it to double as a on-the-go portable) I'd grab a Paradox.  I hear the isolation is really good.
