Sound

These came with two pad options. Fat and stock. With the fat pads I get more bass. In both cases detail and ambiance is not that great. The cans are not too bright nor too rolled off in the treble though. There is some edginess to them that I don't like. IMO these may be similar to the ATH-M50 though perhaps a little less bassy with the stock pads. Don't think the M50s had that edge but can't remember.

Comfort

Ok.

Presentation

They sort of look a little like the ATH-M50s, but with a stripes suit. Whatever that means.

Price

About $210-$250. M50s are like $100...

Overall

They are OK for $100. It's an alternative to other studio like cans though. Stock it might be a little more neutral. Again, some may find it a little too edgy.

Well, that's a lot less neutral than advertised on HF :P. The M40x seems to be flatter at $99.

Perhaps, would love to check the M40Xs. The biggest problem I had with these was some edginess with some songs though.

As far as HF reviews (not all, but in general)... Well... Oppo PM-1: neutral, M40x: neutral, MT220: neutral, HD600: neutral, Stax (all of them): neutral, LCD-1/2/3/4/5/6/...a/b/c/d...: neutral, [insert your beloved can here]: neutral... all cans are bestest.

Occasionally one may read some random dude post... well... x or y headphone does some things right, but these others wrong, and things may go down south from there: meet impressions, defective unit, deaf dude, agree to disagree, we all hear different, why are you posting here (it's against the rules), vendor/fans report/flag, hurting my feelings, troll, ban this guy, ... post deleted, too controversial, every thing is good now. Back to neutral.

It is what it is. Lots of good info there though. Massive. Fun in the treasure hunt sense, and if willing to help some random dude make a half decent purchase when possible.

Hahahah... I think you will find the M40x even edgier, they have a HF sizzle that I had to tame and they still sound a little weird up top.

That is a great summary. The place is like Happy Hour (without the chicks).

Thanks for the measurements. I'm not surprised. Consensus was a hair warmer than neutral with a slight treble emphasis. All you have to do is delete the qualifiers to get to the truth.

Interesting that you find them similar to the M50s...
I didn't... I thought the M50s were even more recessed (probably because of the tiny bit bigger bass?) and was a "warmer" headphone overall. But of course that's all from memory.

Yeah, that was basically my impression (and still) is. I wrote these notes on August last year:

Quote (selected)
Some notes:

Cable is non-removable (I thought it was) and it's coiled.
They feel completely comfortable as of now, and they earpads feel pretty good even though they are not very deep.
Seem sturdy and well constructed.
Are sensitive enough to run from an MP3 player.

These are NOT your "bright as the sun - monitoring" headphones (i.e. they have a completely different signature from the Shure SRH440/940, KRK 8400/6400, Spider Moonlight, etc.) These actually feel a bit like the Shure SRH840s but a bit smoother as a whole! Tracks with slamming bass, they show it, basslines are reproduced excellent. Loving the vocals too but need to test more with female voices. Something up-top seems a bit boosted though, it picks up on hiss on tracks pretty fast and some sibilance has shown up.

Tracks tried:

Daft Punk - Get Lucky
J-King and Maximan - Ella me pide something
Paramore - Still into You
Netsky - Let's leave tomorrow
Bring me the Horizon - The House of Wolves
Kaskade - One Heart

Will probably come up with more and comparisons during the weekend. As of now, they are enjoyable.!

I don't think my impressions have changed on them. I still enjoy them, but would not probably keep them... :)

Thanks ultrabike!

From memory, the M50 to me where bassier than these, specially when using the stock pads... and not by a tiny bit. The whole spectrum is therefore more recessed relative to the lows.

I also heard the up-top boost that you heard. This was not present in the M50s which I though was smoother in that area (aside from bass). I don't think the measurements show this issue clearly for some reason. At least no the FR magnitude. However, the CSDs are not so clean, so the FR phase at the higher frequencies might be all over the place. The highs edginess (and indeed perhaps sibilance) was my main problem with these.

The reminiscence of the M50s comes from several factors. The build is similar in some ways. Even the depth of the stock pads is similar. I also felt the M50s had more in common with these than say the TH600/900, Focal, NAD, and so on. There could be other full size closed cans that might resemble these closer. Overall the balance is proly more neutral on these than the M50s, but I like the M50s more.

Also special thanks go to Gelocks for lending me these and the Donscorpio Drama cans. And to Insideous Meme for lending me quite a few IEMs of which the Dunus where IMO surprisingly nice.

Thanks guys!
