You did recommend one amp with a version of that chip to HD800 users.

Indeed, there are always exceptions to the rule. The TPA6120 sonic tendencies seem to synergize with the HD800. Other, probably more important factors would be the balanced arrangement (the only one recommended), and much higher voltage power rails of the HDVD800. Probably +/-12V or 15. I do wonder if the PHA-1 is using the TPA6120 with power rails (from battery) under recommended minimum voltage per spec sheet.

Probably 15V in HDVA(D), as its peak output is 24V (-silicon bandgaps, etc). In paper bad idea for low z transducers. None of which makes sense with TDK IE800/ BA200 (dual transducer) iems with 10ohm/ 30smth ohm  z and sounding pretty good of the Sennheiser amp for some reason. Reasonably controlled and grain free, maybe synergy thing, as the TDKs have overly warm signature.
Hifiman HE400 sounded horrendous of this amp as these should.
