RMAF 2013 Announcements and Discussion

(1/38) > >>

MuppetFace:
RMAF 2013 is coming, and there are quite a few new products being announced. Let's discuss what we're interested and not so interested in mateys!

I'll start. New Audez'e headphones definitely pique my interest, but then I've become an orthophile. Really looking forward to hearing these with the mighty LAu, which is pretty much aural sex with orthos.

Also interested in the new Jerry Harvey IEMs. This is why I held off getting the JH13Pros.

Questhate:
Apparently there is a Fostex ortho in the pipeline as well. Will be interesting to see how that fares against the TOTL orthos outconsidering their $80 ortho is so good, and they statement TH900 turned out great. Sadly, there's no picture of it anywhere yet.

Armaegis:
I'm really curious about what the price point of these is going to be.

I'm guessing the Fostex will be somewhere between the T50rp and TH600, but that's a big gap so it could be anywhere. I'd love to see something portable sized, but that's unlikely unless they've developed something less power hungry (though if anybody could do that... it would be them).

Audeze... they've already got the 1k and 2k price points, and I don't see it going lower, so where else to go but up? At least up to Abyss pricing. I dunno, just wildly speculating here. nevermind just saw the prices on the hf thread

zerodeefex:
I want to buy everything. I'm almost over my fear of Audeze (until I read http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,204.0.html again, of course). I also am interested in hearing more folks comment on the Abyss/LAu combo  :)p7

Major points of interest for me (in no particular order):

* New Fostex Orthos!
* Audez'e LCD-XC and Audez'e LCD-X (to a lesser degree, though)
* JH Roxanne whatevers (yeah, yeah, I know)
* Schiit Ragnarok
* Anything else new from Schiit

MuppetFace:
TBH the new Jerry Harvey CIEMs are doing a bunch of stuff that annoys me... the whole "MOAR DRIVERS" with the quad trio (12 drivers per side, for a total of 24), plus the whole paying $200 more for all carbon fibre shells. Like those guys who gloat about their carbon fibre steering wheels oooo.

...And yet I can't help but get all hyped 'bout it. Between these and the 10 drivers coming out from you-know-who, it seems the trend of trying to shove more and more drivers into shells marches on unabated. Which is iffy, because having more drivers means there's more to go wrong, and the sound could be disjointed.

That's part of why I'll be investing in Canal Works this fall. They don't use nearly as many drivers, but like the UERM they have a well done integration and implementation. The L05QD is especially nice, and their L51a flagship uses resistors to "tune" the sound. I appreciate clever stuff like that over bigger numbers, both in drivers and price.

Also yeah, I'm super psyched about the new Fostex. Let's hope they've decided to release a flagship-level ortho again. Between these, the two new Audez'e models, and LFF's two new models... it's a very nice (and expensive) time for orthos.

Bah, there are two things in this hobby that get my lust meter rising more than the average announcement: new high-end IEMs and new planars. It just so happens most of the cool announcements have been for these things.
