err so I have been reading through the thread but I still just need to ask to be sure:
what's the best cheaper way to make this DAC sound good, if the OR5 is a bit too pricy?
say $500 or so instead.
to use with a desktop PC and a Macbook.

You really just need to bypass the coax or USB, which leaves I2S as the available digital input.

There are only two other converters that output I2S that I know of.  The Channel Islands Transient MK2 at 699 or the Audiobyte Hydra.

You would need DACLadders HDMI board doesn't have an rj45 i2s out.  I am not sure if the pins would work anyway.

right, that's what I was thinking!
would I need the DACLadders HDMI board for either of those products?
so those are only possibly going to work, not confirmed?
