Didn't Sennheiser used to make actual PA gear back in the day?

Even if they did there's no telling if they just didn't outsource all electronics. I don't really know if any of the big brands have an extensive knowledge base on how to do good headamps.

The best Sennheiser amp I've heard was the HEV90 at the last CES, it was brilliantly articulate and not overly romantic.  However, this was different than the other 3-4 occasions I've heard the HEV90 in various states of alternate singatures.  Apparently they made around 3 or more running revisions to the amp during it's life cycle so impressions of the Orpheus rigs need to be taken in context.

Bear in mind, in my opinion, SS amps are much easier to get wrong, mostly because people think they are much easier to get right.

Could it be the fact that some of the older Orpheae might be suffering from element degradation due to aging? Also 'Heiser is known to do silent updates. The Staxmore mafia lieutenants don't hold the circuit in high regard but then again that shouldn't come as a big surprise.

Both or all three, who can say?  Except for maybe a baker.

I've briefly talked about the HEV90 with Spritzer and his conclusion was that the circuit is pretty simple however he did mention that Sennheiser (?) has used some pretty low quality parts. This is why I mentioned degradation over time- lower quality parts may not age as well as the better ones (industrial not magic grade).

Maybe he'll chime in on this later. Don't know if he visits this place very often.

What's the story on the Aristaeus amp? Isn't that one specially made for the Orpheus?
