Oh boy was that room run by a bunch of half wits.  I'll have more tale to tell on that experience.  They sure barked up the wrong tree and didn't realize what was waiting for them...

So that explains it.  Seriously Anax, I don't know if you realized it, but you looked REALLY EFFING PISSED OFF coming out of there!  You know, like scary pissed off.

Oh I was.  It had nothing to do w/ the gear either, but the lack of common human civility and decency by a specific individual.  I was just utterly shocked especially coming from people that are supposed to work in a customer service oriented industry.  It was like accidentally running a Stop sign hidden behind some bushes and getting pulled over and arrested while the cop cuffs you and whispers in your ear, "I got you now BOY, your kind makes me sick!"

Did you get to stick around for our public exchange in the hallway?

Nope, in fact, I wasn't even close.  Here's how pissed off you were...  I was in that dining area past the cigar chick on your way out, just having a bite.  Saw purrin rush back and forth a couple of times, and then I saw you both charge out of there.  I sensed the injustice from 60ft away long after the fact.  THAT'S how pissed you were.  All I remember thinking is dafuq just happened?

Just to put this in perspective for y'all.  I've met Anax a couple of times now.  Every single time, without exception, he's been cool, kind and helpful to me - even if I've asked a dumb question from time to time.  Not to ruin the reputation of being -um - passionate... but srsly a smile every time.

So when I wonder about what caused that, my mind is going wildly all over the place.

One of the strangest places I've been to experience sound is inside a Moss Rossenberg type LNG tank on a ship.  Basically you are inside an almost perfect sphere made of aluminum that's about 2" thick at the poles, 6" at the equator.  The combination of the almost perfect sphere and the awesome isolation provides for a really weird chamber effect and super odd echoes that just seem to keep coming back over and over again.  Talk about effin' ringin'!   :-00

A sealed anechoic chamber with the lights out is frightening.

Very much so. Not unlike the old sensory deprivation chambers. Too much time in one at a shot can induce psychosis.

Not sure what was affecting the bass on the second setup - this is one of the "preproduction" headphones. Drivers are pretty much the same though. Some of the manufacturing had to switch for the headset and some final driver tweaking occurred while suppliers changed. But my impression of the bass is very tight and layered. Alex has the other pair from this initial assembly , from what he has said, the bass and overall presentation is spot on with the LAu.

shows are such volatile situations, I recall messing with drivers and settings of that perfect wave minutes before the doors opened for people to start browsing at rmaf  ( although I don't recall having the urge to follow anyone )

Yeah, this is is really tricky. The first setup I heard under good conditions (I caught it when no one was in the room) and I knew the recordings (the ones I typically use for listening tests) and the amp (LG + old stock Sylvanias.) Unfortunately, I could not compare with other headphones.

The second setup I heard under poor conditions, but with less familiar tracks (still known, but not ones I use for listening tests), but with known comparison to Anax modded HD800.

I think it's inconclusive, although I did like what I heard at the Systems Design Group room (Mr. Jerry Axelrod's.) I asked a rep (their young guy), and he said it would be another 2 months before they expect to get their allotment of production units.

You shouldn't give Final Audio Design any more ideas...

Yeah, I should mention that the Cable Company guy said that DSD needed to be used to realize the full potential of the Abyss.

Whatever. A decent amount of SACD recordings I have actually sound worse than the original CDs. I'm really getting sick of this DSD being in vogue shit.

Makes sense Cableco is pushing DSD now, they just started selling the Mytek DAC and I've gotten some spam emails from them about it the last couple weeks.

Problem is, the DSD ship has sailed.  Now if you don't include it in your new product you're missing something.  I get the impression the Schitt boys did't necessarily subscribe to the hype, but it's going to be in the new Schitt.
